El primer \u00e9s la cerim\u00f2nia que va tenir lloc en un zool\u00f2gic per homenatjar els animals morts a causa de la guerra. En el ritual hi participaren animals, com ara elefants i orangutans, que van ser ensinistrats per agenollar-se en senyal de dol. L\u2019altre fet, que va tenir lloc el 1944, \u00e9s l\u2019execuci\u00f3 en massa d\u2019animals al zool\u00f2gic de Yuanshan per por que les bombes nord-americanes deixessin en llibertat els animals i que aquests poguessin causar baixes civils. In Zoo Hypothesis (2023), the Taiwanese artist presents a single-channel video featuring a scriptwriter and an actor having a conversation on a performance they are preparing that explores the relationship between \u2018gestures\u2019 and \u2018horrors\u2019 in a taxidermist\u2019s studio.\r\n\r\nThe conversation between the scriptwriter and the actor revolves around two events from the time of the Japanese occupation of Taiwan during World War II. The first one is a memorial ceremony held in a zoo to honour animals that died during military operations, and for which animals such as elephants and orangutans were trained to kneel as a symbolic gesture of mourning. The second event alluded to was a mass execution of animals that took place in 1944 at Yuanshan Zoo. The killing was intended to prevent civilian casualties caused by runaway animals in case the US military bombed the city.
