La revista Scientific American va voler resoldre l\u2019endevinalla i un any m\u00e9s tard va oferir una resposta. El caure de l\u2019arbre produeix una vibraci\u00f3 a l\u2019aire. Si all\u00e0 no hi ha cap orella que ho pugui percebre, no hi haur\u00e0 cap so. De manera semblant, podr\u00edem preguntar-nos si hi existeix el paisatge en abs\u00e8ncia d\u2019un observador.\r\n\r\nM\u00e9s enll\u00e0 de debats metaf\u00edsics, la noci\u00f3 mateixa de paisatge est\u00e0 intr\u00ednsecament lligada a la mirada de l\u2019observador, i nom\u00e9s la podem comprendre des d\u2019una perspectiva particular, des d\u2019un \u201cjo\u201d i un \u201cnosaltres\u201d. Tot i que hem de recon\u00e8ixer l\u2019exist\u00e8ncia d\u2019una realitat objectiva, espacialment i temporalment independent de l\u2019observador, un paisatge, un territori, un lloc, no es poden reduir \u00fanicament a la topografia, la biodiversitat o les condicions clim\u00e0tiques. La nostra percepci\u00f3, filtrada inevitablement per influ\u00e8ncies culturals i personals, transforma el territori en una idea \u00e8tica i est\u00e8tica impregnada d\u2019anhels, experi\u00e8ncies i records. De manera parecida, podr\u00edamos preguntarnos si existe el paisaje en ausencia de un observador.\r\n\r\nM\u00e1s all\u00e1 de debates metaf\u00edsicos, la noci\u00f3n misma de paisaje est\u00e1 intr\u00ednsecamente ligada a la mirada del observador, y solo podemos comprenderla desde una perspectiva particular, desde un \u00abyo\u00bb y un \u00abnosotros\u00bb. Aunque debemos reconocer la existencia de una realidad objetiva, espacial y temporalmente independiente del observador, un paisaje, un territorio, un lugar, no pueden reducirse \u00fanicamente a su topograf\u00eda, su biodiversidad o sus condiciones clim\u00e1ticas. Nuestra percepci\u00f3n, inevitablemente filtrada por influencias culturales y personales, transforma el territorio en una idea \u00e9tica y est\u00e9tica impregnada de anhelos, experiencias y recuerdos. Scientific American magazine wanted to solve the riddle and a year later offered an answer. The falling tree produces a vibration in the air. If there is no ear there to perceive it, there will be no sound. In a similar way, we could ask whether the landscape exists in the absence of an observer.\r\n\r\nBesides metaphysical debates, the very notion of landscape is intrinsically linked to the gaze of the observer, and we can only understand it from a particular perspective, from an \u201cI\u201d and an \u201cus\u201d. Although we must recognize the existence of an objective reality, spatially and temporally independent of the observer, a landscape, a territory, a place, cannot be reduced solely to its topography, its biodiversity or its climatic conditions. Our perception, inevitably filtered by cultural and personal influences, transforms the territory into an ethical and aesthetic idea impregnated with longings, experiences and memories.
