El treball de Rom\u00e1n consisteix principalment en la creaci\u00f3 de figures geom\u00e8triques abstractes a petita i gran escala, que ell mateix construeix amb fusta mitjan\u00e7ant un labori\u00f3s i meticul\u00f3s proc\u00e9s. Aquestes formes es convertiran despr\u00e9s en la base sobre la qual l\u2019artista col\u00b7loca acuradament el seu llen\u00e7 amb solucions enginyoses per\u00f2 alhora polides. B\u00e0sicament, utilitza el llen\u00e7 per a envoltar-les, com si fossin sof\u00e0s. Aquest proc\u00e9s de treball creua el dom\u00e8stic amb l\u2019industrial, i les obres, en la seva aparent senzillesa, adquireixen vida pr\u00f2pia. Com a \u00faltim pas del seu proc\u00e9s creatiu Rom\u00e1n pinta les seves obres exclusivament amb oli, amb corrons d\u2019una escuma dura i molt porosa amb la qual crea superf\u00edcies de color irregulars, que semblen planes des de lluny, per\u00f2 que revelen una textura densament espessa i puntejada quan s\u2019observen de prop. Aquest recurs \u00e9s un homenatge a la hist\u00f2ria de la pintura i tracta de potenciar encara m\u00e9s la tensi\u00f3 contempor\u00e0nia que es genera en les obres de Rom\u00e1n pel contrast d\u2019un mitj\u00e0 molt tradicional amb la contemporane\u00eftat de les seves formes. Aquesta exposici\u00f3 representa la culminaci\u00f3 dels \u00faltims anys de recerca pict\u00f2rica de Rom\u00e1n i prendr\u00e0 la forma d\u2019una \u2018caixa d\u2019eines\u2019 conceptual, en la qual cada eina\/obra d\u2019art ser\u00e0 un pol\u00edptic compost de moltes parts. Cada pe\u00e7a pret\u00e9n tenir una funci\u00f3 diferent i ser complexa en si mateixa: per aix\u00f2 Rom\u00e1n evita recursos d\u2019instal\u00b7laci\u00f3 que, en la seva opini\u00f3, nom\u00e9s les complicarien innecess\u00e0riament, preferint en el seu lloc solucionis m\u00e9s f\u00e0cils com instal\u00b7lar les seves peces d\u2019una manera molt senzilla. Una vegada col\u00b7locades en l\u2019espai, les peces comencen a competir entre si de manera natural i org\u00e0nica, com si tinguessin personalitats, poders i objectius propis, i l\u2019espectador queda amb la invitaci\u00f3 impl\u00edcita de comparar-les i triar la que m\u00e9s li convingui per a desenvolupar la seva pr\u00f2pia funci\u00f3, sigui el que sigui i del tipus que sigui. D\u2019aquest fi concepte sorgeix el nom de l\u2019exposici\u00f3, \u2018Functions\u2019, que significa literalment: \u00abrelaci\u00f3 entre un conjunt d\u2019inputs que tenen un output cadascun\u00bb.","desc_es":"Para esta edici\u00f3n de ARTNOU, Galer\u00eda Alegr\u00eda presenta una exposici\u00f3n individual del artista mallorqu\u00edn Rom\u00e1n Fabr\u00e9 (1999). El trabajo de Rom\u00e1n consiste principalmente en la creaci\u00f3n de figuras geom\u00e9tricas abstractas a peque\u00f1a y gran escala, que \u00e9l mismo construye con madera mediante un laborioso y meticuloso proceso. Estas formas se convertir\u00e1n despu\u00e9s en la base sobre la que el artista coloca cuidadosamente su lienzo con soluciones ingeniosas pero a la vez pulcras. B\u00e1sicamente, utiliza el lienzo para rodearlas, como si fueran sof\u00e1s. Este proceso de trabajo cruza lo dom\u00e9stico con lo industrial, y las obras, en su aparente sencillez, adquieren vida propia. Como \u00faltimo paso de su proceso creativo Rom\u00e1n pinta sus obras exclusivamente con \u00f3leo, con rodillos de una espuma dura y muy porosa con la que crea superficies de color irregulares, que parecen planas desde lejos, pero que revelan una textura densamente tupida y punteada cuando se observan de cerca. Este recurso es un homenaje a la historia de la pintura y trata de potenciar a\u00fan m\u00e1s la tensi\u00f3n contempor\u00e1nea que se genera en las obras de Rom\u00e1n por el contraste de un medio muy tradicional con la contemporaneidad de sus formas. Esta exposici\u00f3n representa la culminaci\u00f3n de los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os de investigaci\u00f3n pict\u00f3rica de Rom\u00e1n y tomar\u00e1 la forma de una \u2018caja de herramientas\u2019 conceptual, en la que cada herramienta\/obra de arte va a ser un pol\u00edptico compuesto de muchas partes. Cada pieza pretende tener una funci\u00f3n diferente y ser compleja en s\u00ed misma: por eso Rom\u00e1n evita recursos de instalaci\u00f3n que, en su opini\u00f3n, solo las complicar\u00edan innecesariamente, prefiriendo en su lugar soluciones m\u00e1s f\u00e1ciles como instalar sus piezas de una manera muy sencilla. Una vez colocadas en el espacio, las piezas comienzan a competir entre s\u00ed de forma natural y org\u00e1nica, como si tuvieran personalidades, poderes y objetivos propios, y el espectador queda con la invitaci\u00f3n impl\u00edcita de compararlas y elegir la que m\u00e1s le convenga para desarrollar su propia funci\u00f3n, sea cual sea y del tipo que sea. De este fino concepto surge el nombre de la exposici\u00f3n, \u2018Functions\u2019, que significa literalmente: \u00abrelaci\u00f3n entre un conjunto de inputs que tienen un output cada uno\u00bb.","desc_en":"For this edition of ARTNOU, Galer\u00eda Alegr\u00eda presents a solo exhibition by the Mallorcan artist Rom\u00e1n Fabr\u00e9 (1999). Rom\u00e1n\u2019s work consists mainly in the creation of small and large-scale abstract geometric figures, which he himself constructs out of wood through a laborious and meticulous process. These forms then become the base on which the artist carefully places his canvas with ingenious yet neat solutions. Basically, he uses the canvas to surround them, as if they were sofas. This working process crosses the domestic with the industrial, and the works, in their apparent simplicity, take on a life of their own. As a final step in his creative process Rom\u00e1n paints his works exclusively with oil paint, using rollers of a very porous, hard foam to create irregularly coloured surfaces, which appear flat from a distance, but which reveal a densely jagged and stitchy texture when viewed up close. This recourse is an homage to the history of painting and seeks to further enhance the contemporary tension generated in Rom\u00e1n\u2019s works by the contrast of a very traditional medium with the contemporaneity of its forms. This exhibition represents the culmination of Rom\u00e1n\u2019s last few years of pictorial research and will take the form of a conceptual \u2018toolbox\u2019, in which each tool\/artwork will be a polyptych composed of many parts. Each piece is intended to have a different function and to be complex in itself: Rom\u00e1n therefore avoids installation resources that, in his opinion, would only complicate them unnecessarily, preferring instead easier solutions such as installing his pieces in a very simple way. Once placed in the space, the pieces begin to compete with each other in a natural and organic way, as if they had personalities, powers and objectives of their own, and the viewer is left with the implicit invitation to compare them and choose the one that suits him best to develop his own function, whatever it may be and of whatever kind.
