{"id":19829,"date":"2021-11-09T13:12:59","date_gmt":"2021-11-09T11:12:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/graf.cat\/?p=19829"},"modified":"2022-10-04T01:25:31","modified_gmt":"2022-10-03T23:25:31","slug":"barcelona-gallery-weekend-a-piece-an-exhibition-a-surprise-a-space","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/graf.cat\/en\/barcelona-gallery-weekend-a-piece-an-exhibition-a-surprise-a-space\/","title":{"rendered":"Barcelona Gallery Weekend: a piece, an exhibition, a surprise, a space"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the <strong>7th edition of the Barcelona Gallery Weekend<\/strong> we\u2019ve prepared a <strong>TOP 5<\/strong> with five short questions and we\u2019ve send <a href=\"http:\/\/instagram.com\/kunstbcn\">las kunst<\/a>\u00a0to the participant galleries to meet with five art related agents willing to answer them: <strong>Sof\u00eda Farjiani<\/strong> (artist), <strong>Iv\u00e1n Forcadell<\/strong> (artist), <strong>Sem\u00edramis Gonz\u00e1lez<\/strong> (curator),<strong> Ianko L\u00f3pez<\/strong> (journalist) and <strong>Joaqu\u00edn Jes\u00fas S\u00e1nchez<\/strong> (art critic).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Which was the goal? To know things like which piece they would take home without even thinking about it, what has been the exhibition proposal that most interested them, which artist or gallery they didn\u2019t know and surprised them or which space they found the most stimulating. A different way to approach this annual event, promoted by the <\/span><b>Art Barcelona<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> association, which seeks to strengthen and make visible the rich and varied artistic context of Barcelona and its metropolitan area, encourage art collecting and highlight the work of the galleries and their artists.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/grafagenda\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19871 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/graf.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/APROPOS_BGW_1-1275x960.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1275\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"https:\/\/graf.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/APROPOS_BGW_1-1275x960.png 1275w, https:\/\/graf.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/APROPOS_BGW_1-150x113.png 150w, https:\/\/graf.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/APROPOS_BGW_1-768x578.png 768w, https:\/\/graf.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/APROPOS_BGW_1-1536x1157.png 1536w, https:\/\/graf.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/APROPOS_BGW_1-2048x1542.png 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1275px) 100vw, 1275px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>1 &#8211; A PIECE<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, considering that one of the objectives of the Gallery Weekend is to promote art collecting, the first question was a must: Which piece would they take home without thinking, on a whim, and which as an investment for the future.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For Sof\u00eda Farjiani this was an easy answer, since she has fallen in love with <\/span><b>Rafel Bestard<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s work and would take the piece <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Link<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/galeriacontrast.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Galeria Contrast<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) without giving it a second thought, although as a future investment she would opt for one of Henri Michau\u2019s works exhibited at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.galeriamarcdomenech.com\/\">Galeria Marc Dom\u00e8nech<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sem\u00edramis Gonz\u00e1lez, who we met in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/graf.cat\/author\/adn\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ADN Galeria<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, would choose one of <\/span><b>Marinella Senatore<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s pieces that can be seen in this same space: \u201cIt\u2019s interesting for how it addresses the conflict in the street; everything we are experiencing, the demonstrations, the protests and this return to the streets\u201d. But she doesn\u2019t consider it as an investment for the future, sinc for her \u201cbuying art also has that impulse, that kind of passion in which one throws oneself into buying somethings and bets on an artist hoping that in the future he will grow because their work is worth it\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the other hand, Joaqu\u00edn Jes\u00fas would take an <\/span><b>Enrico della Torre<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, from the exhibition at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/graf.cat\/author\/galeria-alegria\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Galeria Alegria<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and thinking about the future he confesses that even if he is not a great expert he would take a <\/span><b>Guillermo Pfaff<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.carlestache.com\/web\/es\/exposiciones.php?estado=1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Galeria Carles Tach\u00e9<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>2 &#8211; AN EXHIBITION<\/b><\/p>\n<p>With a total of 33 participant galleries, which have presented both collective and solo shows of more than 70 artists, we know it&#8217;s very difficult to choose, but we like challenges and we wanted to know which has been, for each one, the best exhibition of this year.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this edition of the BGW 33 exhibitions have been presented, both collective and individual, created, designed and curated by different agents. And we know that it is very difficult to choose but we love challenges, so we ask which is for them the best exhibition of this year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here they\u2019ve highlighted the exhibition <strong><em>Our Hours<\/em><\/strong> by Rafel Bestard in <a href=\"https:\/\/galeriacontrast.com\/\">Galeria Contrast<\/a>; the show <strong><em>El tiempo de las lombrices<\/em><\/strong> by Teresa Solar at <a href=\"https:\/\/graf.cat\/author\/joanprats\/\">Galeria Joan Prats<\/a>; <em><strong>Cuatro paredes<\/strong><\/em> by Luz Broto at <a href=\"https:\/\/graf.cat\/author\/ethall\/\">etHALL<\/a>; <strong><em>Indignadas<\/em><\/strong> by Mar\u00eda Mar\u00eda Acha-Kutscher at <a href=\"https:\/\/graf.cat\/author\/adn\/\">ADN Galeria<\/a> and the tandem that is generated between the exhibition at <a href=\"https:\/\/graf.cat\/author\/nogueras-blanchard\/\">Nogueras Blanchard<\/a>, about a fictitious encounter between Alberto Card\u00edn and Pepe Espali\u00fa, and the show <strong><em>Contact! Together Again<\/em><\/strong> at <a href=\"https:\/\/graf.cat\/author\/espaitactel\/\">House of Chappaz<\/a>, \u201cclosely related to the previous one because it\u2019s based a bit on an artistic analysis, from an artistic perspective, of HIV &#8221;, Ianko points out.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/grafagenda\/channel\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19874 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/graf.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/APROPOS_BGW_2-1-1280x751.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"751\" srcset=\"https:\/\/graf.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/APROPOS_BGW_2-1-1280x751.png 1280w, https:\/\/graf.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/APROPOS_BGW_2-1-150x88.png 150w, https:\/\/graf.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/APROPOS_BGW_2-1-768x450.png 768w, https:\/\/graf.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/APROPOS_BGW_2-1-1536x901.png 1536w, https:\/\/graf.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/APROPOS_BGW_2-1-2048x1201.png 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>3 &#8211; A SURPRISE\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beyond collecting, it is important to highlight the work of galleries as art spaces open to the public. The BGW is undoubtedly a great opportunity to cross its doors and discover new places and new artistic proposals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sem\u00edramis, for example, has been surprised by the contrast between the new work and the work from the nineties by artist <strong>Yamand\u00fa Canosa<\/strong>, who exhibits at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zielinskyart.com\/\">Galeria Zielinsky<\/a>, while for Iv\u00e1n Forcadell the surprise has been the <a href=\"https:\/\/graf.cat\/author\/dilalica\/\">Dilalica<\/a> gallery, which he had not yet had the opportunity to visit and where he has found a piece by <strong>L\u00faa Coderch<\/strong>, who was his teacher.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ianko, on the other hand, can\u2019t get <strong>Dorian Sari<\/strong>\u2019s video <strong><em>Loop<\/em><\/strong> at <a href=\"https:\/\/graf.cat\/author\/bombon-projects\/\">Bombon<\/a> out of his head, \u201ca video in which something that is out of the field is pointed out and we don\u2019t know what it is; it generates a very peculiar energy in the room and above all it stays in the viewer\u2019s mind. I actually keep thinking about it\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>4 &#8211; A SPACE<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Visiting an exhibition means, inevitably, going through it. Physical interaction becomes inevitable. With this question we wanted to know what is the relationship established between the works, the space and the observers, and what has been the space they found most stimulating.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joaqu\u00edn Jes\u00fas S\u00e1nchez: \u201cI really liked the exhibition that Joaqu\u00edn Garcia has curated at <a href=\"https:\/\/graf.cat\/author\/nogueras-blanchard\/\">Nogueras Blanchard<\/a>, which is a unique space that can be filled with almost anything, and giving it personality seems to me a complicated thing and I think he has achieved it something as simple as hanging some texts\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sof\u00eda mentions <a href=\"https:\/\/graf.cat\/author\/galeria-alegria\/\">Galeria Alegria<\/a>: \u201cI find it very modern, very different as a space and with options and offers for artists who want to create an installation or an exhibition\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ianko L\u00f3pez highlights the proposal by Luz Broto at <a href=\"https:\/\/graf.cat\/author\/ethall\/\">etHALL<\/a>, \u201cwhich precisely intervenes the space with four walls that prolong the pillars of the space and that achieves something that I think is very rare, which is that we effectively perceive the space in another way and ask ourselves about those small negotiations that often in everyday life exist between the spaces themselves and also between us and those spaces\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/grafagenda\/channel\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19865 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/graf.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/APROPOS_BGW_3-1280x742.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"742\" srcset=\"https:\/\/graf.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/APROPOS_BGW_3-1280x742.png 1280w, https:\/\/graf.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/APROPOS_BGW_3-150x87.png 150w, https:\/\/graf.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/APROPOS_BGW_3-768x445.png 768w, https:\/\/graf.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/APROPOS_BGW_3-1536x890.png 1536w, https:\/\/graf.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/APROPOS_BGW_3-2048x1187.png 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>5 &#8211; THE UNEXPECTED<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, as the kunst team love to go for it all,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> they came up with five surprise questions for each of the people interviewed: Which gallery has treated Sof\u00eda the best? Which piece would Joaqu\u00edn Jes\u00fas give to his brother? Who would Iv\u00e1n collaborate with? Who would Ianko support if he were a patron?
