La meva pr\u00e0ctica s\u2019inverteix \u00e0mpliament en la idea de la imatge com a for\u00e7a, m\u00e9s que com a composici\u00f3 de les seves formes constitutives, que despr\u00e9s s\u00f3n mal\u00b7leables a les necessitats de la imatge. D\u2019aquesta manera, \u2018Catch and Release\u2019 fa refer\u00e8ncia a la provisionalitat dins de la pintura. Dins de la seva producci\u00f3, les pintures reflecteixen el proc\u00e9s de pesca. Una vegada que agafo una imatge i comen\u00e7o a pintar-la, la pintura actua com un lloc de resist\u00e8ncia, i nom\u00e9s puc mantenir una imatge durant tant de temps abans que s\u2019hagi de deixar anar. En cas contrari, la imatge pot quedar subsumida per la pintura, o viceversa. Sempre hi ha aquest risc de viol\u00e8ncia. Com els peixos d\u2019aig\u00fces profundes, les pintures pateixen un trauma de canvi de pressi\u00f3 quan les traiem dels regnes de la ment cap a la fisicitat de la pintura? Els continguts d\u2019aquestes obres presenten un inter\u00e8s per la imatgeria i les narracions d\u2019una nost\u00e0lgia arrelada a l\u2019americana, aix\u00ed com q\u00fcestions d\u2019on s\u2019enfronta la nost\u00e0lgia amb la fantasia i el mite. De esta manera, \u2018Catch and Release\u2019 se refiere a la provisionalidad dentro de la pintura. En su producci\u00f3n, las pinturas reflejan el proceso de pesca. Una vez que me apodero de una imagen y empiezo a plasmarla en pintura, esta act\u00faa como un espacio de resistencia, y solo puedo retener una imagen durante un tiempo antes de que deba liberarla. De lo contrario, la imagen puede ser absorbida por la pintura, o viceversa. Siempre existe este riesgo de violencia. Al igual que los peces de aguas profundas, \u00bfsufren las pinturas un trauma de cambio de presi\u00f3n cuando las sacamos del \u00e1mbito mental a la materialidad de la pintura? El contenido de estas obras presenta un inter\u00e9s en las im\u00e1genes y narrativas de una nostalgia arraigada en la cultura americana, as\u00ed como en la confrontaci\u00f3n entre la nostalgia y la fantas\u00eda y el mito. M\u00e1s all\u00e1 de la pesca, las pinturas abordan temas amplios sobre lo que se pierde en la captura y lo que se gana en la liberaci\u00f3n.","desc_en":"\u2018Catch and Release\u2019 is a body of paintings that respond in varying degrees to the titular concept, which refers to the process of returning a fish to water after its capture. My practice is broadly invested in the idea of image as a force, rather than a composition of its constituent forms, which are then malleable to the needs of the image. In this way, \u2018Catch and Release\u2019 refers to provisionality within painting. Within their production, the paintings mirror the process of fishing. Once I seize upon an image and begin to render it in paint, the paint acts as a site of resistance, and I can only hold an image for so long before it must be released. Elsewise, the image may be subsumed by the paint, or vice-versa. There is always this risk of violence. Like deep-sea fish, do paintings undergo a trauma of pressure change when we pull them from the realms of the mind into the physicality of paint? The contents of these works feature an interest in the imagery and narratives of a nostalgia rooted in Americana, as well as questions of where nostalgia bumps up against fantasy and myth.
