Art + Escola + Màgia
A spark of emotion, that extraordinary moment of expressive exaltation, the flash of eloquence in the face of a work of art, are possibly the main motives in the pursuit of every creative act and a key aspect in influencing the various artistic forms.
The exhibition of the 14th edition of Art i Escola is a journey through the projects presented by each group and school, thirty-one schools and forty-two projects, collected by theme, form, or participation. The suggested itinerary within the exhibition is flexible responding to diverse categories and observing their relationships:
Optical Illusions, Transformations, Traditions and Legends, Fantastic Creatures and Other Worlds, Unguents and Potions, Mirrors and Reflections.
Visitors can follow the projects highlighted in the exhibition rooms by a painted frame of a saturated and bright green colour, almost day-glo, which refers to the natural but also to the supernatural; a green surface reminiscent of both, nature and artifice. A colour like that of the green-screen, used in cinematography and television, which renders objects invisible, while allowing for the insertion or superimposition of images, therefore creating the illusion of new realities.
Magic means illusionism, prestidigitation staged as a spectacle of trickery and deception. The seduction and suggestion of the optical perceptions of visual psychology. Magic can be found in the complex and enigmatic worlds of symbolism and mythology, in the unknown and the supernatural, in the ancestral, in the afterlife, in dreams, in fog, in mirrors, and in the imaginary and fantasy. Magic can also be found in celestial objects, in shooting stars, in the moon, in the sun, in the stars and constellations, in the extraterrestrial, or in the cosmos. Magic is in special places, special corners, sacred places. Magic plays with cards and dice, tarot and chance. Magic is astrology and the zodiac.
And magic thrives in rituals and traditions, popular beliefs, and folkloric characters. Magic means fantastic beings, legends and myths, dragons and mermaids, gods and goddesses, fairies and goblins, brownies, piskies, nymphs and water women; witches and sorcerers, druids and cunning-women. Also, magic means medicinal herbs, unguents and potions.
