Venue: Lo Pati Centre d'Art
Plaça Mari Chordà, sn

Open calls

The City Council of Amposta and Lo Pati – Centre d’Art de les Terres de l’Ebre have opened the call for projects for the 2024 edition of the Amposta City Art Biennial, which reaches its eighteenth edition this year. Participation is open to all visual artists, of legal age and residents in Spain, who can submit a maximum of three works, of free theme and technique. The deadline for submission ends on Thursday, May 2.

The jury will be composed of Elvira Dyangani Ose, curator and director of MACBA; Peio Aguirre, art critic and independent curator; Chus Martínez, curator and director of the gender institute Arte y Naturaleza at the Academy of Art and Design FHNW in Basel; and Aida Boix, director of the Centre d’Art Lo Pati, who will act as secretary with voice but without vote.

Among all the applications submitted, the jury, appointed for this purpose, in a first meeting, will select a maximum of 12 artists and the corresponding works that will participate in BIAM 2024, and in a second meeting, will choose the winning work, the name of which will be announced during the inaugural event of the Biennial. The prize is endowed with €5,000 for the winning work and €500 for each of the selected artists. The transportation costs of the selected works, as well as their insurance, will be covered by the organization. For this reason, in 2022, the call for the BIAM received the seal of good practices awarded by the PAAC (Plataforma Asamblearia de Artistas de Cataluña), thus becoming the fourth call in Catalonia and the first outside Barcelona to receive this recognition.

The BIAM exhibition is scheduled from December 2024 to February 2025 at the Lo Pati art center.

The BIAM has evolved over the seventeen previous editions (1989-2022) as a powerful showcase of emerging creation in the country, consolidating itself as a thermometer of the state artistic activity regarding contemporary creation, as well as measuring the temperature of the different artistic and conceptual orientations that gain prominence from different creative fields, combining emerging and established artists and bringing together high-level proposals and names with recognized careers.

As a key event within the national artistic circuit, over these 17 editions, artists such as Susy Gómez, Javier Peñafiel, Raquel Friera, Rafael G. Bianchi, Nuria Güell, Ian Waelder, Anna Dote, Matteo Guidi, Daniel De La Barra, David Ortiz, Mario Santamaría, Elena Aitzkoa, Lúa Coderch, or Fermín Jimenez Landa; among others; and critics and curators such as David Armengol, Sabel Gavaldón, Montse Badia, Carles Guerra, David G. Torres, Frederic Montornés, Ferran Barenblit, Juan Canela, Manuel Olveira, Martí Manen, Nuria Enguita, Alexandra Laudo, Marc Navarro, Rosa León, or Hiuwai Chu, have participated.
