Head, Heart, Flesh. Subirachs’ Tarot
“Josep Maria Subirachs defined himself as a cerebral artist. He did not believe in inspiration or in intuition but rather in reflection. On more than one occasion, he professed a desire to be remembered as a creator of symbols. A notable example of this is the allegorical scope of his forays into the world of Tarot. When he was commissioned to draw his own deck, Subirachs immersed himself in a thorough-going investigation of its meaning and reinterpreted it by way of his own symbolic alphabet. This exhibition reviews the connections with other works by the artist and his unprecedented vision, staying true to his style and artistic thought.”
