The exhibition Corresponding brings together a group of works by contemporary artists from the Catalan and international contexts that take the letter and its derivatives as their format.

The exhibition seeks to explore the nature of time and the intimacy created in epistolary relationships, and to reflect on the needs and desires that lead us to address someone else through correspondence.

Through proposals articulated around written letters, emails, mobile phone messages, or other more abstract communicative exchanges, the exhibition also aims to reflect on the deeper meaning of the term “to correspond” in a time when individualism takes center stage, understanding epistolarity as a relational gesture — as a practice that creates bonds and sustains relationships of care and mutual responsibility.

In many of the works, the urgency of addressing someone else through a letter or related communicative acts emerges in the context of an experience of imprisonment or confinement — such as Covid-19 — establishing a resonance between the exhibition proposal and the building where it takes place, the former Presó de Mataró.
