Cristina Mejías. Knowing by Ear. Curated by Claudia Ponga-Rodríguez

Knowing by Ear is an exhibition shaped around ways of knowing grounded in listening, intuition and movement, rather than in accumulation or fixation. Drawing on the thought of María Zambrano and her notion of the silent music of existence, the project offers an immersive experience in which the works appear as open, porous structures in constant transformation.

The exhibition is organised around the installation Cantants silencioses, originally produced at C3A in Córdoba, which acts as the core of a constellation of pieces that are made and unmade, shown inside out and back to front, inviting visitors to move through the space as if crossing a woodland clearing. Filtered light, organic materials and lightweight structures compose a landscape that calls for an attentive, unhurried form of perception—far from today’s noise and perpetual overexposure.

Cristina Mejías develops an artistic practice that brings installation, sculpture, drawing and research into dialogue, with an ongoing interest in listening, storytelling and non-normative forms of knowledge. Her work often unfolds through wandering processes, close attention to materials and minimal gestures, and the relationship between art, thought and sensorial experience. She understands artistic practice as a space of resistance to the accelerated pace of contemporary production, proposing ways of working grounded in care, repetition and openness to what is not immediately visible or audible.
