Habiting the Landscape

Habiting the Landscape is an international open call in Architecture, Art & Science to imagine a new educational space within the landscape of CACiS.

The Centre for Contemporary Art and Sustainability CACiS – El Forn de la Calç launches Habiting the Landscape, an international open call addressed to young architects, landscape architects, final-year architecture students, and interdisciplinary teams to imagine and design a new educational space within the CACiS estate.

The call invites participants to rethink the relationship between architecture, landscape, art, and science through proposals capable of creating a place for encounter, learning, and experimentation in the heart of nature. Rather than designing a conventional building, applicants are encouraged to conceive an architectural intervention that engages in dialogue with the surrounding landscape, its ecological and cultural heritage values, and becomes a living environment for educational activities, artistic and scientific research, and cultural mediation.

Particular attention will be given to proposals that embrace interdisciplinary methodologies, co-creation processes, and collaboration between professionals from architecture, the arts, science, education, and related fields, recognising that today’s environmental and social challenges require diverse perspectives and collective approaches.

Habiting the Landscape

CACiS – El Forn de la Calç

We are launching an international open call to select an individual, team, or collective to conceive and develop an architectural proposal integrated into the landscape of CACiS.

We are looking for projects that connect architecture, art, science, and sustainability to create a permanent or semi-permanent educational space for school activities, art and science laboratories, meetings with artists and researchers, nature observation, and cultural mediation programmes.

Who can apply?

• Architects and landscape architects under the age of 35.
• Students in the final two years of an Architecture degree.
• Interdisciplinary teams working across architecture, landscape, the arts, environmental sciences, design, or education.

Priority will be given to proposals that incorporate collaborative and co-creative processes across disciplines.

Projects should prioritise sustainability, accessibility, bio-based and ecological construction methods, reversible systems, and a minimal environmental footprint.

The residency includes

• €2,500 artist/architect fee
• Accommodation
• Workspace at CACiS
• Technical and conceptual support
• Guidance from the CACiS team
• Access to the centre’s archive
• Project communication and dissemination
