Correspondence
2003 – 2025
Bea and Isabel first met in 2003 around a table to talk about waiting, within the context of the exhibition Waiting Lists at Espai Volart, Fundació Vila-Casas, where Isabel Banal was showing two display cases from the series Unrevealed. Before that meeting, Bea had sent a photographic roll to Isabel’s home, opening up the idea of correspondence. A year later, in 2004, they met again —Bea as curator and Isabel as artist— for the exhibition Whitewashing at the Pròleg Bookshop (Duoda-UB), where blank notebooks hung from a clothesline. The accompanying text consisted of a series of e-mails between them, in which the idea of correspondence had expanded, with the color white as its central theme.
Since then and up to the present, they have maintained an ongoing correspondence around this color —initially by post, later also by e-mail and mobile messages. A street. A laundry. A notebook. A flag. A nativity scene. A house. A bar. A mask. An egg and a hen. A pencil. A book. A newspaper clipping. A paper strip for testing a perfume. An idea and a letter. And now, an exhibition.
