Expanding on the exhibition 1959. Joan Claret. Paintings, Galeria Marc Domènech now presents 1960-1965. Joan Claret. Paintings, an exhibition devoted to a decisive period in the consolidation of Joan Claret’s (Barcelona, 1929–2014) constructivist language. Over the course of these five years, his painting undergoes a profound transformation, leading him from the utmost formal refinement and the lightness of space towards a new conception of volume, density, and architectural construction.

Following the radical break of 1959, Claret further explores the possibilities of a distinct pictorial vocabulary of his own. During the early 1960s, his painting progressively sheds any superfluous element and concentrates its expressive capacity on the relationship between line, plane, light, and void. The palette is reduced to whites, blacks, and greys, while line, freed from its descriptive function, ceases to delimit forms and instead traverses and articulates space.
