The ART QUARTET and Genís Bagés will bring music to the works of the Biennal d’Art Ciutat d’Amposta
On the afternoon of Saturday, February 1, the ensemble led by the musician from Flix, specializing in free musical improvisation, will perform at Lo Pati to close the 18th edition of the Biennal.
“In an increasingly digitalized and dehumanized world, fine arts remind us of the importance of emotion and thought,” explains Flix-born musician Genís Bagés. With this idea as a starting point, Bagés created ART QUARTET, a musical ensemble designed to pay homage to the arts, rooted in the most primal gesture: improvisation. Bagés, a drummer, has joined forces with violinist Leonor Falcón, pianist Clara Lai, and double bassist Àlex Reviriego to create a unique and unrepeatable sound universe, incorporating electronic foundations.
On Saturday, February 1, at 7:00 p.m., ART QUARTET will perform at Lo Pati in a concert inspired by the finalist works of the 18th Biennal d’Art Ciutat d’Amposta (BIAM), which are exhibited at the Amposta art center. Through improvisation, the group will present a free and authentic repertoire, blending electronic elements with the sound of acoustic instruments. The concert will mark the conclusion of the Biennal, which ends on Sunday, February 2. The Biennal has become a barometer of Spain’s artistic activity in contemporary creation. Since its inception in 1989, with eighteen editions to date, it has evolved into a powerful showcase for emerging talent in the country.
Genís Bagés is a drummer and sound artist, with a degree in jazz from ESMUC. He also studied at the Vienna Konservatorium. Bagés lived in Berlin, where he was an active part of the city’s music scene for two years. He has performed at festivals such as the Südtirol Jazz Festival (Italy), Primavera Sound, and Eufònic. He is involved in several projects across rock, jazz, and free improvisation.
Violinist and violist Leonor Falcón has collaborated with ensembles dedicated to jazz, avant-garde, Latin, and classical music. Since moving to Catalonia, she has worked with the Sant Andreu Big Band, Elia Bastida, Marta Roma, Aupa Strings, and Genís Bagés, among others. She teaches at the Taller de Músics in Barcelona.
Clara Lai is a pianist and composer with extensive experience in classical, contemporary, jazz, and free improvisation music. She leads her own ensembles and collaborates with some of the most prominent musicians in the national scene, such as Oriol Roca, Àlex Reviriego, Ferran Fages, Albert Cirera, Celeste Alías, and Joan Moll. She also has ties to the Portuguese music scene, where she has collaborated with musicians like José Lencastre and João Almeida, among others.
Àlex Reviriego plays double bass, organ, and electronics. As a double bassist, he excels in extended techniques and timbral exploration. He is a member of ensembles such as Phicus, Inhumankind, Tholos Gateway, and Möhit and is one of the most active musicians in Spain’s experimental music scene. He has explored diverse styles such as black metal, contemporary composition, folk, and ambient electronic music.
