Manifesta 15 Barcelona Metropolitana / Film Screening: I Am the River, the River is Me + Panel Discussion

The Whanganui River in Aotearoa/New Zealand is the first river in the world to be legally recognised as a person, acknowledged as a living entity. The Māori people fought for this recognition for more than 150 years. The film sees Māori River Guardian Ned Tapa leads a group of friends, family and activists on a five-day canoe journey down this sacred river. Among them are a First Nations Elder from Australia and his daughter, both activists striving to save their own endangered river, along with an Australian artist and an international film crew.

Join us for this open-air screening at the Gustavo Gili this Saturday at 19.30 for a special screening of I Am the River, the River Is Me as part of Manifesta 15 Barcelona Metropolitana. Experience this powerful film exploring the deep connection between people and nature, weaving cultural heritage and environmental justice into a moving narrative.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with the filmmakers, Petr Lom and Corinne van Egeraat Daniel Barbé Farré (Arxiu de Paisatges Inestables – Taula del Llobregat – La Viral), Annelies Broekman (CREAF – Taula del Llobregat – La Viral) and Miguel Cañedo-Argüelles Iglesias (Senior Aquatic Ecologist at the Instituto de Diagnóstico Ambiental y Estudios del Agua / IDAEA-CSIC).
