MEDITERRÀNIA
MEDITERRANEAN
Solo Exhibition by ELIURPI
Elisabet Urpí Ràfols and Nacho Umpiérrez Fripp
MEDITERRANEAN is the new solo exhibition by ELIURPI, the creative duo formed by Elisabet Urpí (Catalonia, 1985) and Nacho Umpiérrez (Uruguay, 1983). After over 15 years living and working in Barcelona, they are internationally recognized for their sculptures and hybrid objects that blend art and design.
For this exhibition, ELIURPI draws inspiration from the Mediterranean and its organic forms. The installation highlights the beauty of the Mediterranean Sea and what remains of it, focusing on the Padina algae found in its waters. The work recreates the movement, flora, and reflections of the sea, using natural materials such as wood, straw, raffia, linen, and silk, which are integral to their artistic process.
They founded ELIURPI 15 years ago in Barcelona, with a foundation rooted in culture, architecture, and contemporary art. Their unique artistic language draws from various disciplines, reviving cultural traditions with a contemporary approach. Initially known for their sculptural hats, in recent years their work has expanded to sculptures and other art pieces.
Their works have been showcased at prominent events such as ARCO in Madrid, the Biennale of Art and Craft in South Korea, where they received an honorable mention, and the solo exhibition Shadows & Poems at Palazzo Litta in Milan.
With this exhibition, ELIURPI invites reflection on the beauty and fragility of the Mediterranean, merging art, nature, and culture into a unique piece.
