MURMURS IV: Cry of Oblivion. A Video Selection Curated by the Observatorio de Vídeo No Identificado
Within the framework of Murmurs, the live arts programme of MACBA’s Year Thirty, a session curated by the Observatorio de Vídeo No Identificado (OVNI) is presented.
Between 1996 and 1998, OVNI curated sixteen thematic video programmes at the museum that were pioneering in their field and laid the foundations for MACBA’s first video library. Reviving that spirit of critical exploration of images, this new proposal connects with that foundational experience and reactivates its potential to reflect on gaps, archives, and contested memories.
“This session introduces us to the forgetting of situations that are distant from one another, yet all close to our present—those that at the time may have seemed to unfold in a troubling silence and that now reveal themselves as significant. (…) These are works that explore, through diverse strategies, memory as it becomes fragile, history as it is rewritten, and the unreal as it seeps into everyday experience.”
The session includes the screening of three projects followed by a conversation with their directors: Iñaki Álvarez, director of El Dolor; Dionís Escorsa O’Callaghan, director of Room Service for Bombed Buildings; and Maya Wolińska, director of Hänsel and Gretel: What Remains.
