Origen

The exhibition “Origin” presents at the Museu de Lleida a selection of contemporary works from the Fundació Sorigué collection in dialogue with historical pieces from the Museu de Lleida.

The exhibition is a joint creation by both institutions, with the aim of connecting art and historical heritage with contemporary art.

The concept of “Origin” alludes to the roots of contemporary art in earlier artistic traditions, as well as to the origins of the Sorigué Collection in Lleida. The institution maintains a strong connection and sense of reciprocity with the territory where it was born, through its ongoing commitment to culture.

In 2025, Fundació Sorigué celebrates the 25th anniversary of the beginning of its contemporary art collection, which in March 2025 received the prestigious “A” Award for Corporate Collection from the ARCO Foundation.

With this exhibition, Fundació Sorigué celebrates and reaffirms its commitment to sharing its artistic heritage with society and continuing to promote reflection through contemporary art as a vehicle for communication, debate, and thought.

The selection of works featured in the exhibition connects us with contemporary issues, drawing from its immediate environment as well as from a rich cultural legacy.

“Origin” highlights how many contemporary artists draw inspiration from earlier movements and how, from prehistory to the present day, art has explored major universal themes such as climate change, housing, the human condition, caregiving, and food.

“Albion” by Mat Collishaw, “Der Rhein” by Anselm Kiefer, “Cap” by Jaume Plensa, “Peinture pariétale sur toile” by Miquel Barceló, “Interior” by Aziz and Cucher, and “Blanket” by Liza Lou are some of the foundation’s collection works that will be on view at the Museu de Lleida.
