Oscar Holloway. Atlas. Curated by Iñigo Villafranca Aspeteguia
Atlas is an image archive compiled by Oscar Holloway between 2010 and 2025, presented both as an exhibition and as a tool for consultation and public circulation. The project explores the image through the poetics of front and back, understanding the surface as a space of encounter and inquiry.
In dialogue with the mythological figure of Atlas—condemned to bear the weight of the world—the exhibition invites viewers to look at what usually remains hidden: the structures that support the visible. The Documentation Centre thus becomes a key space within the project, activating the archive as a tool for critical thinking and for engaging with the public.
Oscar Holloway develops an artistic practice centred on the image, the archive, and long-term collecting processes. His work investigates the materiality of images and the ways in which they construct narratives, memories and systems of meaning. Through exhibition and editorial dispositifs, Holloway activates the archive not as a closed container, but as an open space that enables new readings and forms of public circulation of visual knowledge.
