Music Pavilion | Duo Gruber
The program Kurt Weill “From Ku’damm to Broadway” is about exploring musically the stages of the life of Kurt Weill (Berlin – Paris – New York).
The composer Kurt Weill, son of a Jewish singer in Dessau, was an outstanding student of Ferruccio Busoni in Berlin. He was a creator of advanced orchestral and chamber music in the early 1920s and the main innovator of opera in the Weimar Republic, as well as being the founder of a new style of song (along with Bertolt Brecht), a musical composer successful on Broadway and representative of American opera in the wake of George Gershwin.
On their program, Katharina and Christian Gruber will perform some of Kurt Weill’s greatest songs from all his creative phases arranged by guitar and music, with Matrosen-Tango, Surabaya Johnny, Youkali or Septembersong and It was never you.
