Presentation of the project "Iconografies populars. Després del record", by Ignasi Prat and Glòria Domènech

Roca Umbert Espai d’Arts is organizing next Saturday, October 18, at 12 p.m., the public presentation of the project Iconografies populars. Després del record, led by the artists and researchers Ignasi Prat and Glòria Domènech.
The session will share the current state of this project after two years of research in residence at Espai d’Arts, focused on visual anthropology as a tool to preserve and reinterpret iconographic traditions and to detect new aesthetics linked to contemporary collective psychology.

The project is structured around two main lines:

  • Gastronomic imaginaries, documenting the iconography found in bars and restaurants as spaces of everyday gathering and interaction.

  • Funerary imaginaries, exploring the funerary imagery of the cemeteries of Vallès Oriental, understood as a material testimony of memory and of cultural forms of dealing with death.

As a whole, Iconografies populars proposes a critical and sensitive reading of the images that inhabit both public and private spaces, from intimate remembrance to community coexistence, revealing how popular iconographies help us understand life, death, and social bonds.

The artists

  • Ignasi Prat (Sant Esteve de Palautordera, 1981), graduate in Fine Arts and PhD in Arts and Cultural Studies (BAU/UVic). His work has focused on the study of imaginaries of power and their representations.

  • Glòria Domènech (Sant Celoni, 1971), graduate in Technical Architecture and in Photography and Digital Creation (UPC). Her artistic career investigates the narrative possibilities of the image in dialogue with the body and visual technologies.
