Where Dreams Dwell. Malgosia Jankowska

Polish artist Malgosia Jankowska (Sochaczew, 1978) creates worlds where nature and the human figure merge in a dialogue of light and mystery. Her work is characterised by the precision and delicacy of her brushstrokes. In her paintings, a mysterious white light pierces silent forests, creating dreamlike atmospheres reminiscent of old fairy tales, such as those found in the Brothers Grimm’s stories.

On one hand, Jankowska constructs landscapes inhabited by children, mushrooms, and forest creatures, figures that seem to emerge from a story suspended in time. Her mastery of colour, between translucent and opaque, creates a sense of depth and movement.

On the other hand, in her contemporary still lifes, the artist transforms solitary banquets into vibrant scenes: flowers, animals, and everyday objects intertwine in a horror vacui that blends the real and the fantastic. Each composition invites the viewer to enter a unique visual universe, one that is full of beauty and mystery.
