ጥቁር - TIKUR, by Jermay Michael Gabriel & Adrasha

20:3021:30 h
Venue: Periferia Cimarronas
c/Cerdanyola 26
Barcelona
Performance

ጥቁር – TIKUR is configured as a moment of deep reflection on the territories of reclaiming. Through the symbolic gesture of sharing raw meat, emblematic of Ethiopian resistance during the conflict with Italy, sacrifice is evoked. The raw meat, originally associated with perseverance during the war, is transformed today into an iconic dish of Ethiopian culture, representing the transformation of pain into strength and resilience.

The performance destabilizes the very concept of sacrifice, questioning the audience about its multiple interpretations and implications, as well as offering the possibility to share and reflect on the sensations summoned in a context of reclaiming and social commitment.

A request for direct confrontation with the complexity of human stories and struggles.

Jermay Michael Gabriel is an Italian-Ethiopian-Eritrean trans-disciplinary artist and curator that lives and works in Milan. His work is based on an experimental, and often extreme, effort to resist the permanence and elusiveness of the Italian colonial archive through the subversion of its symbols of power.

Ticket sales at the box office of Periferia Cimarronas on the same day of the event.

Voluntary contribution of a suggested 6 euros.

After the performance, the artist will share raw meat with the audience. Participation is optional.
