⚡︎ Nikolay Morgunov

Nikolay Morgunov’s practice unfolds within the uncertain space where order and disruption coexist. His works originate from rigorous structures—grids and predefined systems—that, rather than imposing stability, become settings for accident, resistance, and transformation. Through a slow and accumulative process, Morgunov works with materials that exert opposing forces: charcoal on delicate surfaces, nails that place the canvas under tension, and transparent resins that alter the perception of depth. His compositions do not seek to resolve these tensions but to make them visible.

Each gesture involves a negotiation between control and intuition, between construction and erosion. Material ceases to be a passive medium and becomes an active agent capable of altering the course of the work. Rather than representing the world, Morgunov creates conditions through which to observe how forms emerge, erode, and reorganize themselves, revealing the fragility of any system that appears stable.
