Anna Dot — Libations (Torrent d’en Duran i Riera d’Horta)
Anna Dot — Libations (Torrent d’en Duran i Riera d’Horta)
31 October · 10 am · Starting point: Labyrinth Park of Horta
As a city located at the foot of two mountain ranges, Barcelona occupies a territory crossed by streams and seasonal waterways formed by rainfall and changes in elevation. As the city has expanded, however, asphalt has gradually covered these watercourses, many of which disappear from view as they enter the built-up city. Beneath the streets, a network of concrete pipes, galleries and channels continues to carry these waters towards the Besòs, the Llobregat or directly into the Mediterranean Sea. Today, although we cannot see them, many of these waters still follow the same routes they travelled before being buried underground.
Libations (Torrent d’en Duran i Riera d’Horta) is a participatory performance based on the act of walking, conceived as a tribute to these bodies of water that also inhabit Barcelona. Along the route, we will follow the traces of the Torrent d’en Duran and the Riera d’Horta, guided by a path once shaped by the water itself.
To do so, we will use a series of ceramic libation bowls to make offerings to these invisible waters at different points along the way. A way of telling them: “We cannot see you, but we know you are still here.”
The route is 9 km long, so make sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes!
If you would like to join later, you can meet us at around 11:30 am at Parc de la Pegaso, and at 12:45 pm at Plaça del Fòrum, next to Barcelona’s Natural Science Museum (Museu Blau).
