Arnau Casanoves "Archaeology of transit"
Arqueologia del Trànsit (A good show for the average pedestrian) is a performative installation by Arnau Casanoves, winner of the 2024 Artiga New Creation Award, awarded by the editorial board of Artiga magazine. On June 5, 6 and 7, Casanoves will activate this new piece at the Antic Banc d’Espanya as part of the award, which since 2025 has included the production of a work in Mèdol.
A small wooden house occupies the center of the Banc d’Espanya. It has a transparent plastic roof and walls covered with tapestries of burning houses. The image is direct: fragile domestic architecture installed inside a monumental building, now empty, that had represented economic power.
The sound is constructed live with a mechanical synthesizer made with windshield motors, four horns and a string drum. At the same time, a projection generates a random video collage from fragments of other videos.
The piece depicts a landscape of fossilized traffic and burning housing, where sound, movement and image function as a direct portrait of contemporary collapse.
