Autofiction. Group Show Escola Massana

Autofiction is a group exhibition curated by the Escola Massana in collaboration with Herrera Gallery, aiming to create a space for dialogue between artists who are or have been connected to the school throughout their artistic careers.

The exhibition brings together works in various media that explore the concept of autofiction. Coined by writer Serge Doubrovsky in 1977, the term defines a hybrid territory where personal experience and artistic construction merge and transform one another.

Within the field of visual arts and design, autofiction is understood not only as a representation of the self, but as a way of inhabiting artistic practice through sincerity and lived experience. The works presented are based on the idea that every creation contains a form of self-portrait: an intimate relationship between the creator’s reality, the material, and the learned technique.

The exhibition, featuring students and alumni of the Massana, presents works in which discipline—whether art, design, or craft—ceases to be merely an academic exercise and becomes a language capable of articulating an inner truth.
