Avant la lettre / terre, an exhibition by Helcio Barros (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 1956), curated by Vilanismo, brings together a selection of paintings and drawings that engage with memory, the African diaspora, representation, and the historical construction of identity across Latin America and the Caribbean. Moving between figuration and abstraction, Barros develops a visual language in which earth, body, and form operate as spaces of resistance, autonomy, and historical rewriting.
