Audiovisual Source Code: Minions

TUESDAYS OF VIDEO

Fragmented screening of Minions with Daniel Pérez Pamies

Audiovisual Source Code (1), fragmented and commented screening of Minions, with Daniel Pérez Pamies.

The Minions franchise began with the film Despicable Me in 2010 and includes seven feature films and various derived audiovisual works. The Minions are yellow characters who serve the wicked, with their own unintelligible language, characterised by their humour and incompetence.

In this session, with a format halfway between a screening and a lecture that creates an argumentative thread through the organisation of audiovisual content, we will talk about the Minions’ impact on popular culture: memes, their origins and links to comedy slapstick, among others.

(1) Audiovisual Source Code is a session format devised by the Zemos98 collective that is not a screening, but neither is it a lecture: it is a hybrid format and also a game to share the cultural meaning of a work. It borrows from the term source code, which comes from open source programming.
