bio

Maria Roy (Barcelona, 1993) is an artist and designer who works with both traditional and experimental craft techniques to explore and assimilate the world around her. Her main subject of study is the earth, as living matter that narrates about history, politics and ecology from the local. Using the resources that the earth provides, she forms ceramic sculptures that are closely linked to the geographical context where she develops her practice. With a strong interest in ceramics as an archaeological material, she aims to recover narratives that connect us with the environment through objects. During the last few years, Maria has been teaching in the Degree of Arts and Design at the Massana School and teaches ceramic workshops with the aim of linking the community with the environment and its resources. She also shares her knowledge of ceramics at La Escocesa.
