D(III)RT: Interdisciplinary Dynamism and Textile Realities
The third edition of DIRT (Interdisciplinary Dynamism and Textile Realities), the festival of fashion, new media and experimental expression, returns on Saturday 13 September to the Sala Plana at Casa Canals.
Far from abstract obscurity, this third edition of DIRT is marked by tension: where do the hopes of a generation experiencing the extreme instrumentalisation of their very being begin and end?
The object of study is this new figure of the late capitalist worker, sacrificed even more in a system where physical production gives way to an economy based on semiotics: the absorption of codes, feelings, communication, images and aesthetics. Faced with this scenario, new tools and new forms of struggle must be invented. The question that resonates is: how can we make our codes develop a bacterial resistance to systemic medication? ‘If there is no future, where will our bread flourish?’
D(III)RT, in this context, proposes that, in the face of obvious futility, research into expressive mechanisms and emerging forms should become a struggle against the commercialisation of ideas and against the establishment. It is about thinking about what languages we can speak and what attitudes we need to adopt in order to talk about hope. A hope that, amid anti-future anxiety and perpetual overstimulation, is only possible if our semantics become resistant, impervious to absorption.

DIRT COLLECTIVE:
DIRT is an initiative by the GNTGN collective of young artists, founded in 2022 in Tarragona. With a clear political and activist focus, this interdisciplinary experience brings together some of the talent from the local textile sector and combines performance, music, dance, sound and video art to challenge established conventions.
