Opening of "Ephemeral Beings" by Bigum+Björge – this friday JUNE 7th
This Friday, June 7, we open “Ephemeral Beings” by Bigum+Björge, from 18:30 to 21:30. The gallery’s new exhibition brings the Berlin-based Danish artist duo of visual artist Anders Bigum and designer Gry Björge, who will accompany us during the opening of the exhibition.
In this exhibition, Bigum+Björge invite us on a visual journey that explores the deep connection between humanity and nature. Through their photographs, they meticulously capture ephemeral sculptures inspired by folklore tradition, where stories and myths are used to illuminate the mysteries of the unknown, honoring nature as the ultimate foundation of the human imagination.
“Unknown creatures, Ephemeral Beings peering at us from a distant past or resonating as echoes from a far future. Immortalized through a series of photographs, they present a glimpse into an imaginary world – a world deeply connected with nature.“
Bigum+Björge, 2024.
Through their works, the duo investigates the paradox of beings that, although they do not exist physically, come to life in our imagination, literature, mythology or dreams; and the moment something exists in our imagination, it takes on a form of reality.
To create their pieces they use non-toxic photographic processes and alternative developing techniques that minimize environmental impact, ensuring that their artistic work is sustainable. The exhibition not only explores the intersection between imagination and reality, but also emphasizes a responsible approach towards the environment. It invites viewers to reflect on the power of storytelling and the importance of environmental conservation, through images where nature is intertwined with stories and imagination.
Bigum+Björge is a Danish artist duo based in Berlin, consisting of visual artist Anders Bigum and designer Gry Björge. Their collaboration combines ephemeral sculptures with alternative photographic techniques, creating a captivating fusion of organic beauty and classical art.
