Marc Navarro writes: “[…] Ana Martínez Fernández’s research is directed towards constructing a sculptural lexicon with the intention of moving beyond the sense of urgency and provisionality that we perceive in the use of certain materials. Conceived as a kind of scenography reproducing an interior space, the artist grants emulation — natural wood vs. imitation wood — the capacity to engage our gaze. It is only as we draw closer and patiently slide our eyes across the wrapped surfaces that we discover breaks in the pattern, folds and overlaps. As if it were truly the failure of an image, La Mancha más ciega exposes the assumptions that determine our passage through it. It is therefore not inaccurate to state that the exhibition opens up a space for that which, being so banal, simply goes unnoticed, and which, being so neutral, runs the risk of seeming aesthetically irrelevant to us.”
