►  An open house event at the Baladre artist residency, managed by Lo Pati, the first weekend of June

Stimulating collaboration between artists, scientists, and citizens to promote and experiment with raw materials from the Ebro Delta is one of the objectives of Garba, an initiative led by writer and curator Marc Navarro, architect, designer, and artisan Sara de Ubieta, and sculptor David Bestué, with the support of the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation and Lo Pati – Centre d’Art de les Terres de l’Ebre in Amposta. The initiators aim to locate and repurpose waste materials generated by the economic activities in the Ebro Delta (such as mussel shells, rice straw, plant fibers, etc.) through art.

The project will be divided into quarterly meetings over two years, which will allow the team to identify local businesses and organizations, explore the uses and properties of materials through workshops, and finally present the results. Throughout this period, Garba will conduct workshops open to the public and two public presentations, the first of which is scheduled for the first weekend of June at the Baladre artist residency, located in the core of Balada (in the heart of the Ebro Delta) and managed by Lo Pati.

Artist David Bestué will present a sculptural group, with pieces made from raw materials extracted from the Delta; Sara de Ubieta will showcase a collection of hats made from experimenting with industrial waste materials and local crops; and Marc Navarro will analyze collective transport as a creative space, in an exhibition that will include research articles and a selection of pieces by artists who have approached this theme from various perspectives. The activities will be open to the public on Saturday, June 1 (from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.) and Sunday, June 2 (from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.).

The project is funded by Lo Pati and the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation, which develops activities focused on supporting and promoting projects that address ecosocial challenges. Both institutions share the goal of inspiring, raising awareness, and mobilizing the territorial community, aiming to help imagine and build sustainable futures by supporting projects based on collaboration between artists and researchers from various disciplines.

The organization will coordinate a bus service from Barcelona and has organized a lunch (10 € lunch / 14 € lunch + bus). Those interested in participating can reserve their spots at this link: https://ebreticket.cat/esdeveniments/presentacio-garba-1-6-2024/
