Hangar Obert 2026

On Saturday, 19 September, we’re back with a new edition of Hangar Obert!

Hangar’s resident artists, resident projects and community members will open up their working, research and production processes through open studios and a programme of interventions taking place across the centre, offering a first-hand look at the wide range of practices, research and methodologies that coexist at Hangar.

Throughout the day, there will be a live radio broadcast by dublab BCN, guided tours and a communal lunch. The day will conclude with a celebratory programme featuring performances and DJ sets.

Golden Hour (Glory), Albert Gironès | Studios | 7:30 to 8 pm
Glory is an atmospheric optical phenomenon in which the shadow of a body is projected onto fog, surrounded by an iridescent halo, and can only be seen from the position of the body producing it. The intervention recreates the conditions under which this phenomenon is most likely to occur, at the time when its appearance is most probable, while displacing the site from which it can be perceived. A camera occupies the position from which the Glory is visible, transmitting its view live through a viewing device. Accompanied by an archive of historical representations, the apparatus explores the distance between the experience of the phenomenon and its modes of representation.

Malas Hierbas, Amanda Triano | Studios
The project explores the paradox of the Scotch thistle (Onopordum acanthium), culturally condemned as a weed yet endowed with one of the most sophisticated defensive architectures in the plant kingdom. Taking this roughness as an apotropaic device of resistance, the proposal draws an analogy between biological geometries of containment (seeds, nests, shells) and industrial packaging moulds designed to protect technology intended for ephemeral use.

trusssssssst me, bb, Dennis Dizon | Studios
‘trusssssssst me, bb’ is a series of interventions, playing with the awkward pursuits of (un)certainty. Between ritual and the psychoanalytical, the works-in-progress deconstruct language through the lens of dying. ‘reason X’ portrays a scene from the ‘pagtatawas’—a divination ritual practised in rural Philippines that uses melted candle wax to determine what may be causing illness or distress—as encountered through the death of the artist’s grandfather. Using written text, ‘reason Y’ tests the limits and potential of “free association” through grieving, a psychoanalytic practice that attempts to access ‘unconscious’ processes. As shared, the works annotate tensions between composition and decay, logic and affect, memory and time.

To grow the length of the river explores how selfhood parallels making, emerging through repetition, revision and attention. Through sculptural textiles, I investigate identity and healing as non-linear processes. Threads loosen, forms sag, and works are dismantled and reconfigured. Incompletion becomes a deliberate material and philosophical position, reflecting identity as continually woven, unravelled and reconstructed.

I think about space through gestures, words and postures. I orient myself from there. As when one feels one’s way in the dark, touch, sound and fiction intervene to formulate new places. At a time when the space at Hangar is transforming, just as my practice does between different studios and contexts, A les palpentes proposes sculptural intervention and words as a game and a space from which to observe how a specific context reconfigures our ways of being, working and relating to one another.

Neuro Audiovisual Interaction, Efe Ce Ele | Studios
Efe Ce Ele shows the process of a research project exploring the use of neurotechnologies applied to art. Through an interactive device, participants intervene in image and sound in real time through their own states of brain activity, generating an audiovisual prototype that aesthetically experiments with biofeedback and the biological signals of our proprioceptive and exteroceptive communication. Project developed in collaboration with Innative Lab (Berlin).

Sleeping Giants by Jorge Valiente-Oriol and Amaia Sánchez-Velasco (GRANDEZA STUDIO) + Romea Muryń and Francisco Lobo (Locument) | Studios
Grandeza Studio and Locument propose a filmic-exhibitory journey of estrangement, situated theory-fiction and critical mythology from the salt mountain of Sallent —a massive formation with an extraterrestrial appearance made up of 48 million tonnes of saline waste resulting from potash extraction. Understanding the mountain as an allegorical scenography of past and present tensions between fertility and the death drive, the project poses questions from which to rethink other political-territorial futures: Do we feed the fields of cultivation or the battlefield? What is fertility? Infinite growth, at what cost?

From the Scheme to the Poem, Laura Subi | Former Offices | 8 pm
Performative lecture
Starting from a personal archive in constant accumulation —notes, screenshots, lists, fragments, copies, etc.— Laura Subi investigates how we inhabit information overload and how it can generate new forms of memory and identity. Reading is conceived as an activation in process, between essay and fiction, where the text functions simultaneously as a score and a space for thought.

Performance
Meritxell de Soto opens up a research project she is developing at Hangar around the choreographic practice she has developed over the past few years together with Guillem Jiménez. The sound performance stems from the concept of “DJing with the body”, a practice that turns DJ equipment into objects of affect and eroticism, revealing, from its technical dimension, the web of power relations that shape every encounter between two bodies.

Performative lecture
Subí ao monte vou cara o mar. This is how Mourae’s previous performance began. On this occasion, the artist opens up her practice to contextualise its hydrofeminist turn in a storytelling format in which stories of marine biology, legends and memories of her relationship with the sea intersect through live sound and voice.

Verushka DJ set | Sala Ricson | 10:45 pm
Verushka is a DJ and interdisciplinary artist originally from Caracas, Venezuela, and based in Barcelona. Co-founder and resident of Me Siento Extraña, she understands the club as a space for encounter, resistance and experimentation for queer and FLINTA* voices. Her sound moves between deep grooves, hypnotic percussion and suggestive vocals, building sets that unfold gradually and immersively. A blend of rave energy and progressive sensibility.

Verushka has performed at festivals including Primavera Sound, Whole Festival, BBK, Embassat and Tropikali, Sónar (2024), and has brought her sound to cities including London, Madrid, Berlin, New York, Paris, Amsterdam, Rome, Brussels and Marseille. She is a resident at TORAX by Human Club and has shared her sonic universe on radio stations including RINSE, NTS, Refuge Worldwide, Foundation FM, The Muddshow, Operator, Gimic, Piñata Radio, Daisy Chain, Dublab and Nítido. She has also played at clubs and with collectives including Razzmatazz, Corsica Studios, Nitsa, Lofi, EGG London, Dabadaba, Soundit, BAM, Barbieturix, Howl, Joyride, Maricxs, MESS, MUSA, Deepdowneast, Golpe de Amistad, Karne Kulture, Room Trax…
