The exhibition Correspondre brings together a group of works by contemporary artists from the Catalan and international context that take the letter and its derivatives as their format.
The exhibition seeks to explore the nature of time and the intimacy created in epistolary relationships, and to reflect on the needs and desires that lead us to address another person through correspondence.
Through proposals articulated around written letters, emails, mobile phone messages, or other more abstract communicative exchanges, the exhibition also reflects on the deeper meaning of the term “to correspond” in a time when individualism occupies a central place. It understands epistolarity as a relational gesture — a practice that creates bonds and sustains relationships of care and mutual responsibility.
In many of the works, the urgency of addressing another person through letters or related communicative acts arises in the context of an experience of imprisonment or confinement — such as during COVID-19 — establishing a resonance between the exhibition proposal and the building where it takes place, the former Mataró Prison.
The M|A|C appetizer
We often refer to contemporary art as a field that reflects on the issues affecting society. Many of the artists we invite to the M|A|C have an artistic practice strongly anchored in themes related to the reality that affects us. They work along lines of research that share similarities with those of specialists in their respective fields and develop solid discourses that are appealing to a broader audience beyond those already close to the art world.
With The M|A|C Appetizer, we propose sharing this knowledge in a light format, with the relaxed and conversational atmosphere that the aperitif hour naturally offers.
