Il Giardino
This January, Escat Gallery presents Il Giardino, a solo exhibition by Mirko Baricchi (La Spezia, Italy, 1970). The exhibition opens on January 15 at Escat Gallery Sarrià and will be on view until March 7, 2026.
Il Giardino (The Garden) unfolds as a space in perpetual transformation, shaped by the passage of the seasons. Each cycle offers a distinct perspective: the blossoming of spring, the fullness of summer, the quiet retreat of autumn, and the stillness of winter. This natural rhythm closely mirrors Baricchi’s artistic process, in which layers of oil and pastel are continuously added and removed, echoing the way landscapes are shaped and reshaped over time.
Working across canvas, wood, and paper, Baricchi invites viewers into a pictorial cosmos where every gesture, stroke, and color reflects moments of transition, transformation, and pause. The garden becomes not only a physical space, but also a meeting point between nature, time, and introspection.
Beyond the depiction of flowers, trees, forests, or small animals, the garden emerges as a place of refuge. Baricchi’s palette—dominated by greens, ochres, and earthy tones—reveals the inner life of this environment, constructing an intimate and contemplative universe that resonates with quiet intensity.
