The Needful Night. Sara Bonache
The Needful Night is a pictorial project that explores the night as an essential biological need, intimately connected to our body and nature. This project is rooted in the current issues arising from the excess of artificial light and the way we relate to the natural environment. The nocturnal flight of birds, the reproduction of corals or hormonal function are just a few examples of how artificial light and the absence of darkness affect living beings. On the other hand, this darkness is presented as a narrative and symbolic tool, linked to creation. Here, the images detach from their usual form to give way to metaphor and metamorphosis. Through this project, which draws inspiration from the surrealist tradition as an introspective path and a means to embrace the dreamlike, the absence of light is transformed into a fertile space from which new forms emerge, connecting body, nature and creation, while also reinterpreting a pictorial theme fundamental to the history of art and painting.
