This proposal by Albert Gironès marks a new crystallization within a complex and long-term research project that focuses on various optical phenomena and the narratives that, in one way or another, have sought to explain them. In the process that underpins this investigation, the artist brings together personal experience —the subjective perception of these phenomena—, a meticulous documentary collection of representations from religious and pagan imaginaries and narratives that, throughout history, have tried to make sense of these experiences, and various attempts at recreation, in an exercise that seems to pursue the representation of the unrepresentable.
In a kind of dramaturgical work centred on a series of light-involving phenomena, “The Spectral Apparatus” is a first attempt at designing a device that stages the desire to reproduce these same phenomena —halos, solar coronas, spectres, etc.— while simultaneously transposing and importing the path of the sun on a June 28th in Celrà into the theatre space.
