Mar enllà, mai enlloc
Camera in hand, Blanca Viñas calls into question certain established norms in the field of photography, almost as an imperative. Subverting the rule of thirds, a seemingly random use of coloured filters, image compositions with off-kilter horizons or multiple exposures are just some examples of this. Breaking the rules is the best excuse for exploring the possibilities of analogue photography and creating a new field of play governed by her own criteria. In the implementation process, the artist gives centre stage to fate, error, surprise and, of course, play. By drawing inspiration from the sea and the subconscious, creative opportunities become infinite.
The exhibition Mar enllà, mai enlloc [Beyond the Seas, Never Anywhere], site-specific for Eurostars Grand Marina Hotel in Barcelona, imagines intangible horizons and non-existent yet longed-for places, ones with the scope to redefine the space-time relationship and recover a belief in intuition. With this selection of images, Blanca Viñas pays tribute to the Mediterranean and the giant realm of contemplation it holds for us.
