meltdown, an immersive experience about identity and technology
Immersive installation by artists Mónica Rikić, Mayte Gómez Molina and Myriam Bleau
meltdown is a new immersive installation by artists Mónica Rikić, Mayte Gómez Molina and Myriam Bleau, curated by Xavier Hernández and initiated by The Generative Art Museum (TGAM), with the support of Roca Umbert Fàbrica de les Arts.
The project starts with a question: how would we experience the loss of an intelligent technological device that had consciously decided to leave us? And, above all, what part of our identity would disappear with it?
Conceived as a video game brought into the physical world, meltdown invites audiences to step into an immersive, playful and walk-through experience. Through different choices and forms of interaction, visitors will discover a universe built with projections, screens, sound, sensors, handmade robotics and interactive systems. Every decision transforms the experience and explores new ways of relating to technology.
The installation reflects on the increasingly intrusive presence of devices and algorithms in our everyday lives, and on their influence on our decisions and the construction of identity. meltdown invites us to imagine other ways of relating to technology, based on dialogue, personal agency and the creation of more conscious connections.
The installation opens on Saturday, 12 September at 7 pm at the Zero Room at Espai d’Arts, Roca Umbert Fàbrica de les Arts, in Granollers, and can be visited until 27 September: Fridays from 5 to 8 pm, Saturdays from 11 am to 2 pm and 5 to 8 pm; and Sundays from 11 am to 2 pm.
To experience the installation, visitors are asked to leave their phones outside. A way to disconnect from our devices and connect with what is happening inside the installation: touch, listen, observe and play.
