MERX, Fernando Renes
In MERX, Fernando Renes addresses contemporary hyper-capitalism, a system in which we are simultaneously workforce, consumers, and commodities. The title—a Latin term meaning “merchandise” or “movable goods”—links this reflection to the history of La Panera as a medieval market.
A large ceramic mural, traditional ceramic pieces, large-format drawings, and audiovisual animations explore the relationships between economic exchange and material culture. Utilitarian ceramics—designed for storage, transport, or cooking—allow the artist to connect craftsmanship with market circuits and shifts in the value of objects.
