Metaxis of a precipice. Auri Alós and Sarah Coronado
Metaxis of the Precipice stems from the idea that performance only fully exists in the present moment and that any form of documentation transforms it. In this context, Auri Alós’ project, developed during a residency at L’Estruch, explores the boundaries between action and document, presence and absence.
The exhibition takes as its starting point Condition of Falling, a performance that never comes to take place and remains in a state of potentiality. Paradoxically, traces and documents of a non-existent event are presented, turning the exhibition into a performative experience in itself. The viewer is invited to activate it through imagination, in a play between memory, perception, and fiction.
By altering the usual relationship between artwork and documentation, Metaxis of the Precipice questions what it means to document and preserve performance. Rather than fixing it, the exhibited materials open up a speculative space where the work continues to exist as possibility, in constant balance between existence and disappearance.
