Mireia c. Saladrigues "Polsimarium"
Research into processes of material transformation —particularly those relating to marble, its fragments and phenomena such as discohesion, erosion and wear— is elevated here beyond the realm of sculptural objects to a territorial scale. Dust ceases to be a mere residue of a particular place or work and instead becomes a medium for exploring and understanding a city.
For Polsimarium, Saladrigues gathered dust samples from various locations in Tarragona. Each specimen is linked to a specific location and, therefore, to a particular material history: a building, an archaeological site, an area, an activity or a practice. Taken together, they construct a cartography of Tarragona based not on its monuments, but on the matter that separates from them, accumulates and circulates through its streets.
