Pantalla Pavelló | Film series We are the houses we live in: Parasite by Bong Joon-ho
When summer arrives, a new edition of Pantalla Pavelló begins—the open-air film series that transforms the travertine wall of the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion into a giant screen. Through a space for conversation, each film is contextualized, highlighting the role architecture plays in how we live our lives.
This year’s series, titled We Are the Houses We Live In, invites us to reflect on domestic space, coexistence, and architecture through three films: Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest, Laia Manresa’s Casa Reynal, and Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite. Each of these films, from very different perspectives, explores the relationship between people and the places they inhabit, showing us how our surroundings shape our lives and how, in turn, we transform the spaces we occupy.
The third film of the cycle is Parasite, Bong Joon-ho.
The entire Ki-taek family is unemployed and takes a keen interest in the lavish lifestyle of the extremely wealthy Park family. One day, their son manages to get recommended as a private English tutor at the Park household. This marks the beginning of an uncontrollable chain of events, from which no one will emerge unscathed.
Winner of four Academy Awards, including Best Original Screenplay, Best Director, Best International Feature Film, and Best Picture. An unprecedented phenomenon for a non-English language film that has swept the box office across half the world. In addition to establishing itself in the heart of Hollywood, it also triumphed in the world of independent cinema, winning the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival by unanimous decision of the jury. Parasite has become one of the most important films of the decade.
