-Va! Cántate algo!
-Pero si canto fatal…
-Diz que si cantas atraes a los peces

Artist-in-residence Silvia Zayas presents rayocerca, a three-day programme that functions somewhat like a layered making-of, combining somatic training, workshops, experiences, film references, and crossings with the people who are participating or will participate in various ways in the upcoming film Clarão. Co-produced with Dorothy Michaels, it takes place in Barcelona between Hangar, the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM), and the urban beach on 18, 19, and 20 June.

rayocerca works with chapters that did not happen, collaborations that have not been or are about to be, torpedo rays and other marine creatures as fishing discards, the imminent and apparent extinction of small-scale artisanal fishing, the preverbal, the unconscious, what sleeps, and what is about to become a song or transform into an unexpected language.

It is an unarmed, imagined dramaturgy for “working while working”. It opens collectively as a game-provocation that holds the detours, layers, and guts that the temporality of making this film unfolds. A device that creates mashups between the team’s practices and questions and shared experimentation. rayocerca gathers what is discarded and the rhythmic, paraverbal, or emotional substances that border discourse, spending time with all that raw and unruly matter that opens abysses in meaning.

PROGRAM

Thursday, 18 June
Sala Ricson – Hangar

5:30 – 7:30 pm
Circle of Invocation – first assembly ☉ Queer editing workshop with Ventura García
(…) seeks to open a space of resonance where the spectral can insist and become fleetingly visible. Starting from the figure of the ghost and reflecting on the contingent and relational nature of what we might call queer editing, a live collective film editing session will be developed in which video, still image, sound, gestures, voice, and text coexist within a multi-projection environment.

8 – 9:30 pm
Becoming a Song, Abyss Downwards – Film session with Silvia Zayas and Hamaca
…I imagined this session from a musical perspective, emotionally, abyss downwards, with both rawness and tenderness at once. I imagined experiencing these pieces lying down in the dark. (…) All of them could be songs, or are almost, almost on the verge of becoming songs.

VIDA ALS BARRIS (1980). Servei de Vídeo Comunitari. 29’40’’. Fragm.3’23’’-6’57’’
TXIMIST (2015). Blanca Rego Constela. 7’27’’

ALMA’S SONG (2018). Alex Reynolds. 8’02’’
I CAN ONLY DANCE TO ONE SONG (2021). Arash Fayez. 10’56’’
UNBURIED (2019). Sally Fenaux Barleycorn. 6’25’’
NANA DE ESTA PEQUEÑA ERA / THIS LITTLE ERA LULLABY (2019). Fran MM Cabeza de Vaca & María Salgado. 12’07’’

Friday, 19 June
Laboratorio ICM | Espigón del Gas Beach

6 – 8 pm [ICM]
Discards ☉ with Anabel Colmenero and Claudio Barría
(…) Through the shared practice of dissection, seemingly cold and analytical, the laboratory, in its spoken everydayness, also becomes a space to attend to the affective relations that emerge in the face of death and animal welfare in a fishing context. (…)

8:30 – 10 pm [beach]
Espigón del Gas ☉ A glimpse of a sound and performative encounter with a few exercises for everyone… with Óscar Bueno
I was on a beach some time ago. I worked there for several nights in a row. It felt like a dream. Or at least I remember it that way. Maybe it was all a premonition. Maybe it was a premonition of the present. Maybe what will happen on the beach is a premonition of something still to come (…)

Saturday, 20 June
Antigues Oficines | Sala Ricson – Hangar

11 am – 2 pm [Sala Ricson]
Turning Your Back ☉ Somatic perception workshop with Mar Medina
We will try to be behind the behind, situating ourselves within the static musculoskeletal chain and the neuromeningeal chain. (…) Shifting attention to the back, being only back, perhaps we can discard the eyes in order to see.

4 – 6 pm [Antigas Oficinas]
Electric Coplas ☉ Workshop on discarded writing (fish, dreams, words) with Marina Monsonís
(…) This is a situated and affective writing workshop where words are written with the horizon of desire placed in the present-to-come, in a more respectful and loving relationship with the sea and those who inhabit it. We will work with remains, intuitions, incomprehensible images, fragments, and water dreams to produce a form of writing capable of overflowing its own boundaries (…)

7 – 8:30 pm [Sala Ricson]
Making-of of the spin-off
Live radio with the fishermen Alba Aguilera, Cristian Iribarne, Rafa Aguilera, Catsharks (Claudio Barría and Anabel Colmenero), Biel Navarro, Marta Echaves, Óscar Bueno, Silvia Zayas, Mourae. In collaboration with ReX – Radio Experimenta.
(…) A making-of with interruptions of a radio programme that will function as a discursive spin-off of the conversations and parallel actions taking place throughout the process. Unstable territories and still-mysterious connections along the urban coastline of Barcelona, and especially the El Prat area (…)

8:45 pm
Rocking Me. Fishermen Songbooks with Anto Rodríguez
A brief journey from “El Pescador de coplas” by Antonio Molina to “El Pescaero” by Antonio Amaya. Professions, queer figures, and copla under Francoism.

9 pm
Maybe dancing
if we keep the energy (…)
