The multimedia artist and leading light of Latin American Conceptual Art Regina Silveira (Porto Alegre, 1939) is one of the pioneers in Brazil in experimentation using the latest technologies for the technological reproduction and circulation of images. This survey exhibition looks at her oeuvre from the 1970s onwards and includes a major selection of the work she produced during the civilian-military dictatorship in Brazil (1964−85), a context of censorship and repression. Since her arrival in Spain in 1967, Silveira has explored the possibilities of the codes of language, perspective and visual perception in drawings, prints, photomontages, videos and interventions in the space. Her graphic, audiovisual and three-dimensional work – full of irony and conceptual shifts – comments on the past, questions the status quo and imagines other realities.
