Singuli. La ciutat idiota
Singuli. The Idiot City
A Program of Anarchist Architecture

The idiot is the simple soul; a light presence that conveys a single message: life is simply there; there is nothing essential to say, let alone anything essential to do. The idiot does not shirk public responsibilities but, on the contrary, takes on the most complex of missions: to ruin everything in order to ensure that things always turn out differently. This plane of the most absolute indeterminacy and of all possibilities coincides with the an-archic void. The idiot is therefore the true anarchist and, consequently, the one who compels us to formulate the fundamental political question: How might a group of idiots be conceived? How should the paradox of a polis made up of radical and irreducible singularities be conceived? How, then, might an anarchist city be described?
Singuli is a Latin word meaning ‘each one’, the ‘one’ in ‘one by one’ within a whole; in other words, a singularity that can only be conceived within the framework of a plural entity, a community, a city. Hence, we propose Singuli as the name for that improbable city of fools, in which each individual remains an absolute singularity (idiotikós) and in which the community, paradoxical as it may seem, is constituted in an ‘im-political’ manner.
The exhibition presents a journey through 99 examples of projects –whether real or fictional– which, in each instance express something about Singuli. No single example corresponds to the “idiotic and anarchist city,” yet all the models hover around it from one angle or another. Singuli does not exist –or, if you prefer, it pulses everywhere. This heterodox array of cases, presented via projections, is complemented by cut-out models designed by Domènec («Singuli. The Paper City») and the work «STELO» –a piece by Jordi Colomer created specifically for this project– which draws on a unique evocation of Esperanto, that artificial language intended to foster a space of fraternity.
This project accompanies the essay La ciudad de los idiotas. Un programa anarquista (Ediciones Asimétricas. Madrid, 2026) and it is a continuation of L’Idiota, presented in the M|A|C in 2025.
