Circular motion is present at different scales of nature, from planetary orbits to the spin of particles. This movement often emerges as the result of a balance of forces. Spin brings this idea into the architectural space through a 270° video projection that surrounds the audience, positioned at the centre of the room. Architecture thus becomes a continuous space of light, movement and sound. Light is the central element of the installation. Particles that appear, grow, vibrate, break apart and disappear create a continuous transformation that does not begin with any pre-existing image.
As part of the Panoràmic 2026 festival, which commemorates the 200th anniversary of the invention of photography, this relationship with light takes on a special dimension. Photography is born from the action of light on a medium and allows its trace to be preserved; SPIN, by contrast, works with light that is produced and transformed in real time. The installation does not seek to fix light into an image, but rather to present it as an ephemeral phenomenon that exists, changes and disappears at the very moment it takes place.
PLAYMODES
Playmodes Studio is an audiovisual research and craft studio founded in 2006 by Eloi Maduell (1975) and Santiago Vilanova (1980). With backgrounds in computer engineering, graphic design and musical composition, they develop projects at the intersection of art, science, music and technology. They work with software and hardware tools developed in-house, creating an abstract visual music language that takes shape through immersive installations, light sculptures, kinetic instruments, audiovisual concerts and scenographies. Their work has been presented in venues and contexts including Ars Electronica, ZKM Karlsruhe, ZFIL, the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Copenhagen Opera House, Sónar, Fête des Lumières, Signal Festival, Llum BCN, Vivid Sydney and LUMA New York. They have received recognition and awards from institutions and competitions including Ars Electronica, STARTS, LAUS and ADC Europe, the Guthman Musical Instrument Competition and, most recently, the Premi Alícia 2026.
