What would happen if we found a science fiction publication in the library published in the year 2126?

In this session, we will discover the self-publishing process of a fanzine with visual artist Albert Gironès.

The fanzine is a self-published publication that emerged in the 1930s among science fiction fans. In the 1970s, with the arrival of the punk movement, it became popular and turned into a medium for free creation, outside the major publishing houses. These booklets bring together photographs, stories, illustrations, collages and all kinds of visual and narrative experiments. But, above all, the fanzine stands out for its collective dimension: it is a space for shared creation.

In this workshop, we will work with texts, drawings, collages and other speculations created by different users of the Montserrat Abelló Library. All these pieces start from the same premise: imagining what the world will be like one hundred years from now.

Based on this material, we will discover how a self-published publication is structured, how texts and images can engage in dialogue to construct a new visual narrative, and how a collection of ideas can be transformed into a printed, reproducible and distributable object. We will work collectively with mock-ups and prototypes, exploring different ways of shaping our fanzine.

The proposals that emerge during the workshop will serve as a starting point for the final edition of a fanzine, which will be published and presented at the Montserrat Abelló Library.
